I’ve been wanting to do a “currently reading” post for a few days now, and since I’ve put it off so long, I figured I might as well wait until Monday to post it with everyone else! Easter gave me a lot of reading time, which was nice, and April has already been good to me in terms of books. I’ve gone through 7 books already, and we’re only halfway through the month!
The Takedown by Corrie Wang
I absolutely tore through Corrie Wang’s debut novel, The Takedown on Easter. It was beautiful out, and I sat in the sun all afternoon and literally did not put this book down.
It was the perfectly addictive YA contemporary that I love. It actually reminded me a lot of Before I Fall, another YA I loved (the movie was excellent too!) Kyla Cheng is a shoo-in for valedictorian, the captain of a ton of clubs, and part of an elite group of girls at Parkside Prep. She is almost untouchable — until she isn’t. When a video surfaces of Kyla and her teacher, everything she’s worked so hard to achieve falls away. It’s not Kyla in the video, but no one, not even her closest friends believes her.
I can only compare this to a futuristic Gossip Girl, and my inner high school self LOVED that aspect of it.
Archie Vol. 2 by Mark Waid
If someone tried telling me a few months ago that I would be reading Archie comics, I would have laughed. BUT, this new spin on a classic series is actually a lot of fun, and I was glad to see volumes 1 & 2 available through my library Hoopla app!
I’ve also been obsessed with Riverdale recently, so, that might have also inspired it. Road to Riverdale is next on my list!
A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria Schwab
I’ve heard nothing but good things about this one, and I finally got my hands on a copy, so I’m hoping to pick this one up next!
What are you reading this week?
