It seems like all the great summer books are coming out in June, which just so happens to be my birthday month, so I mean I’m not complaining. There are some amazing things coming this month: a new Stephen King for one! Aziz Ansari wrote a book! Judy Blume is back in action! I can’t handle it all, really. Here are five books I can’t wait to read this month.
Finders Keepers by Stephen King (June 2) The sequel to last summer’s Mr. Mercedes, Stephen King is checking in on Detective Bill Hodges and his two new found crime solving companions. This time, they take on an author with an angry reader. I might be most excited for this one, since I loved Mr. Mercedes so much last summer.
In the Unlikely Event by Judy Blume (June 2) The Internet has been screaming about this one forever it feels like. But I have a confession for you: I’ve never read anything by Judy Blume. I know. In the Unlikely Event is an adult novel, about a woman returning to her New Jersey hometown, the sight of several plane crashes in the 1950’s.
The Truth According to Us by Annie Barrows (June 9) Do you recognize this name? She is the co-author of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society! I’m so excited to read this, which is said to have a similar small town quality to it: The Truth According to Us, brings to life an inquisitive young girl, her beloved aunt, and the alluring visitor who changes the course of their destiny forever.
Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari (June 16) I’ve loved Aziz Ansari since probably episode one of Parks and Rec. I saw him do stand up in September which was amazing, so I can’t wait for this. Though he did talk a lot about Modern Romance even then, so it might be similar. Either way, I’m excited!
The Rumor by Elin Hildenbrand (June 16) Elin Hildenbrand writes the ultimate summer novels. You feel like you’re in Nantucket along with the characters, and this one follows in that same vein: Nantucket writer Madeline King couldn’t have picked a worse time to have writer’s block. Her deadline is looming, her bills are piling up, and inspiration is in short supply. Madeline’s best friend Grace, is hard at work transforming her garden into the envy of the island with the help of a ruggedly handsome landscape architect.
What are you looking forward to this June?
